Ingredients

  • 250ml chocolate milk

  • 2 sachets hot chocolate powder

  • 225g crushed ice

  • Whipped cream, for topping

  • Mini chocolate chips, for garnish

Method

  1. Place two serving glasses in the freezer for 5 minutes to chill.

  2. Add the chocolate milk, hot chocolate powder and crushed ice to a high-powered blender. Blend on high until the mixture is thick, smooth and perfectly frosty.

  3. Divide the frozen chocolate mixture evenly between the chilled glasses.

  4. Finish with a generous swirl of whipped cream and a sprinkling of mini chocolate chips.

  5. Serve immediately with a straw, long spoon or both, while the drink is deliciously icy.

Variations

  • Turn it into a frozen mocha by blending in a shot of freshly brewed espresso or 1 teaspoon of instant coffee granules.

  • Add a drop or two of peppermint extract for a refreshing mint chocolate version.

  • Use chocolate almond, oat or soy milk for a delicious dairy-free alternative.

  • Drizzle chocolate sauce around the inside of the glass before pouring for a café-style finish.

  • Top with crushed chocolate biscuits, brownie crumbs or chocolate curls for extra indulgence.

  • Blend in a scoop of vanilla or chocolate ice cream for an even richer, creamier treat.

Storage

This frozen chocolate drink is at its very best served immediately after blending while thick, smooth and icy. If necessary, it can be stored in the freezer for up to 1 hour. Allow it to soften slightly, then stir well or briefly re-blend to restore its creamy consistency before serving. As this is a frozen beverage, it is not suitable for reheating.

Chef’s Notes

  • Chill two serving glasses in the freezer for 5 minutes.

  • Add the chocolate milk, hot chocolate powder and crushed ice to a high-powered blender.

  • Blend until thick, smooth and frosty.

  • Pour evenly into the chilled glasses.

  • Top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of mini chocolate chips.

  • Serve immediately while perfectly icy.
